Huascaran; ....

General Information

The Huascarán (in Quechua ancashino: Mataraju, 'Nevados mellizos') is a snow-covered massif, located in the western cordillera of the Peruvian Andes, in the provinces of Yungay and Carhuaz, within the Áncash region, in the orographic sector called Cordillera Blanca within the reserved zone of the Huascarán National Park.
Huascarán is the highest mountain in Peru and the highest tropical mountain in the world. The summit can be reached with few stages of climbing, but it is physically demanding and it is necessary that climbers must acclimatize to the altitude. Huascarán is not a technically difficult climb, although it presents several challenges, such as the crossing of large cracks, the risk of avalanches and its great height. We have chosen to climb the busiest route in Huascaran through the Northwest slopes through the Throat
It has three peaks: the northern summit with 6655 masl, the southern summit with 6768 masl (22 205 feet), this being the highest point in the country and the entire intertropical zone; and near the summit of Chopicalqui to the east, with 6354 masl. It is the fifth highest mountain in the American continent after the Aconcagua peaks, Ojos del Salado, Mount Pissis and the Mercedario hill.

Maximum altitude: 6768 m. (Cumbre Huascarán Sur).
Difficulty: Difficult
Preferred time: May to Sep
Place: Cordillera Blanca
Average temperature: Between 13 ° C - 23 ° C during the day / night -05 ° C to -02 ° C.
In the upper part: -10 ° C
